Why is this an important issue and how have they addressed in injustice?

Why is it important to help the poorest of the poor?

People should help the poorest of the poor as at times, people take things for granted and don’t realise what it would be like in another person’s situation. Some people complain that their bed is uncomfortable, they don’t have Foxtel on their TV, don’t want to eat their lunch because it looks bad or they just don’t feel like it and even the fact that they're unable to book an appointment at the doctors. If people were to put themselves in a homeless person’s situation they would regret complaining all those times as a homeless person wouldn't have anything. They would do anything for any bit of food and a bed whether it was comfortable or not. As well as the homeless, the poorest of the poor also includes those who are disabled and diseased. People know what it is like to be sick as it is a miserable feeling and people are often looked after by their family. Imagine being sick or contaminated with a contagious disease for your whole life with no-one to help look after you other than yourself. Same goes with being disabled and not being able to have proper control of certain parts of your body. People need to acknowledge the lifestyle of others and hopefully by putting themselves in a homeless, diseased or disabled person’s situation as it will help promote helping others as no-one would want to be or experience their lifestyle.

How did Mother Teresa help the poorest of the poor?
Mother Teresa as mentioned already in the previous tabs has helped the poorest of the poor in a variety of ways. Some of these will be listed below:
  • Provided food to those who were diseased, disabled and the abandoned so they wouldn't starve.
  • Created hospices so her and volunteers of the Missionaries of Charity could help the dying.
  • She took in children whose parents were going to abort so she could raise them and help them get a home through adoption.
  • Took those who were dying on the street to the hospice.
  • She looked after the untouchables although her life was at risk. She fed them, bathed them and kept them company.
  • She created a charity so others could help the poorest of the poor
  • She distributed the wealth she won from awards to her charity and hospice for more facilities or food for the people.
