Missionaries of Charity
The Missionaries of Charity have over 5000 sisters working and hundreds of thousands of volunteers working in the hundreds of centres located around the world. Within the Missionaries of Charity there are different divisions which consist of different types of work to help others. These different divisions are known as apostolic work, medical care, educational service, social service and relief service. Below, it will list examples of what each division does.
APOSTOLIC WORK: Conducts Sunday school sessions, bible study groups, looking after and keeping residents company in hospitals and nursing homes.
MEDICAL CARE: consists of having leprosy clinics and centres for rehabilitation, provides homes for those who are abandoned such as children, and assists the sick and dying children, patients who have AIDs or suffer from malnutrition and those who are physically and mentally sick.
EDUCATIONAL SERVICE: establishing schools in poverty areas where they can learn how to sew, make things and have commercial classes. As well as this they provide pre-school and after-school classes where they can learn more or do recreational activities.
SOCIAL SERVICES: provides night shelters and homes for those who are unmarried, have a drug or alcohol addiction and those who are homeless.
RELIEF SERVICES: provides essentials such as cooked food, fresh water, and clothing.
